How to measure cabinet hardware?

To measure cabinet hardware like handles or pulls, you mainly need to know the center-to-center (C-C) measurement—the distance between the centers of the two screw holes. Here’s a quick guide:

For Pulls (Handles):
Measure from the center of one screw hole to the center of the other. This is usually given in millimeters or inches (e.g., 96 mm or 3-3/4").

Tip: Don’t measure the total length unless specified—it’s not the same as the center-to-center distance.

For Knobs:
No measuring is needed for hole spacing—just check the knob’s diameter and projection (how far it sticks out from the cabinet).

I bought circular ring pulls (think bull nose ring) from THE restoration hardware suppliers to dress my newly restored American Empire mahogany dresser and added a complementary to the heavy, masculine style. Two small convex side by side drawers over four flat front large drawers. I got handles (on Etsy), they were OK, but it wasn't WOW! And I wanted wow vibe. As soon as I saw these oval rings, I knew they would work. When they arrived, I was happy to see the old bass tone was so close (reeeally close) and was they were just a bit different in shape that they looked like a set. So, one day, I'm lookin' at my beautiful hardware and noticed even the escutcheons were the same! EXACTLY the same. Different stores, same maker. I love 'em & the price is much better.

These ring pools are exquisite!

These ring pulls are exquisite! I purchased an antique Stickley piece that had Chippendale pull handles. They were all curly and busy and made the chest look dated. These new pulls make the piece look new and more contemporary. Forge hardware has amazing things. It’s really worth it just to look because you’ll find something that helps you update a piece and bingo. It’s all beautiful.
